“PuntalAmbiente” Project – Environmental Certificates
In August 2006, the PuntAla Camping Resort obtained the ISO 14001 environmental certificate awarded by the European Community to hospitality structures with excellent environmental practices. Integral to the successful outcome of this process is the PuntAla Camping Resort’s original “PuntalAmbiente” project oriented towards protecting natural resources and bringing guests closer to an eco-friendly lifestyle. As part of this project, web and printed materials mention the resort’s environmental policy and the 10 Nature Tips for an environmentally sound holiday. Each tip also contains the reasoning behind it so that guests will not feel reprimanded but informed and more responsible.

As of October 20, 2008, we can officially display the most prestigious environmental recognition within the European Community. It is not only an award but also a commitment to be honored year after year, with regular inspections, with best environmental practices and the involvement of all our Guests.
Companies and organizations striving to assess and improve their environmental practices can voluntarily adhere to the European Community eco-management and audit system (EMAS).
EMAS was launched in 1995 and was revised and improved in 2001 and in 2009.
The main objective of EMAS is to improve the environment and to provide organizations, authorities and citizens which criteria by which to evaluate environmental impact and define ecological practices.

Along the way, the process has required us to achieve the following tasks:
1.Assess environmental impact.
2.Set up an environmental management system.
3.Receive regular inspections by environmental auditors.
4.Display a statement of environmental practices.
5.Obtain the independent assessment of an EMAS inspector.
6.Register the statement with the competent office of the member State.

The natural resources of the PuntAla Camping Resort are thought of and protected with the same care reserved to an elaborate natural heritage: the pinewood forest is not only a shelter from the midday sun, but also a living ecosystem that allows large and small organisms, including holiday makers, to thrive, and as such it is a precious resource to be protected and maintained in good health. Water is more than a flow from a button faucet; it is a resource not to be wasted, especially in this area of dry summer spells. To this end, under the streets and pitches of the PuntAla Camping Resort, a complex grid of pipes recycles waste water for non-drinking purposes (for example, flushing toilets, watering roads to keep the dust down, rinsing sails…) and the reduction of the use of water up to 40% in the first year.

A basic prerequisite of an eco-sensitive camping resort is a proper waste recycling system. The PuntAla Camping Resort, following the example of a few towns in northern Italy, adopted a “door-to-door” waste collection system: every day designated personnel collects by each pitch or bungalow waste material divided into three bags: one for plastic, aluminum and glass, one for paper and carton, and one for general waste. Guests can pick up new bags by the appropriate distribution point by the entrance. Moreover, containers for used cooking oil are located along the streets and by the bathroom blocks.

Further initiatives to increase the quality standards of this resort are underway. For example, the management is working towards the obtainment of the Eco-Label “Legambiemte Turismo” and the internationally recognized ISO 9001 environmental certificate. The resort is ready for further inspections and check-ups to guarantee and uphold the quality of environment and management.

Moreover, the portion of coastline between Castiglione della Pescaia and Follonica, where the PuntAla Camping Resort, is situated, has been recognized for its clean waters by Legambiente with the award 5 sails and for its pristine beaches by the FEE with the Blu Sail.
